Weeks like these

It’s Friday again, and that rules. Yet at the same time I’ve lost a whole week of blogging. I intended to blog about our Whole Foods extravaganza, joining the Y, cooking more soup this week, trying a new restaurant, my new glasses. Take your pick.
But this week was full of sloth and guess what…I am perfectly OK with that. I decided early on this week that I will not beat myself up over the mounds of laundry that still need doing, the meals that didn’t get prepared, the whatever else didn’t get done.
Because weeks like these happen and if you don’t embrace them with all the yuckiness, the gross weather and failed to-do lists, then you’ll never get over that hump. I, my friends, am a hump jumper. Say that three times. Well, I just did it and that’s not so hard. Ha.
So instead of all the things that didn’t get accomplished this week, let’s focus on what did.

1. We went to the gym twice this week. Not much you say? No, it’s not. But like Fishface said, “It’s more than the zero last week.” We even went in the pouring rain and blistering cold Sunday. A decision I regretted come Monday and Tuesday when I fought off the beginnings of a cold. Sleep eluded me a lot this week because of it, therefore causing the slacker in me to settle in to recover. And it worked. I fought back like a ninja (do not like that word).
2. In full disclosure, I ate sugar Wednesday night. That isn’t awesome. I made it almost two weeks with no blatant sugary deliciousness. Damn you O’Charley’s and your free pie. What happened to counteract that sugar is the fact that I tracked my food all week, even that darned pecan pie. And I didn’t let that pesky piece derail my eats the next day. I owned it, enjoyed it and moved on. Y’all! This is a big, huge piece of getting my mind right when it comes to weight loss. For me, it’s super important to own it, MOVE on and not let each bad bite turn into days of regret and even more bad bites. Hence, accomplishment.
3. I picked up my new specs yesterday. And something about donning frames makes me feel more intellectual and spunky. Though I kinda feel like an 80-year-old who needs glasses, I really don’t because they’re just for driving and watching TV. My vision is good. The doc prescribed them just to “crispen” (totally a word now) things up.

4. More pantry items were thrown together this week to make chicken enchilada soup. It was mediocre. Fishface said it was delish. It was super easy, though filled with stupid amounts of sodium.  It was a recipe I had on Pinterest, but for the slower cooker. I Googled a non-slow cooker version in my quest to defeat any sickness trying to set up camp within my body.

5. I got to watch my youngest niece blow out her birthday candles and open the presents I sent her. Win: the package got there exactly on her birthday! Bigger Win: Thank God for FaceTime. Even bigger win: Her face.
I had a moment while watching her open everything this week when I realized how grown she’s getting and how she’s no longer a baby. She’s entered her tween years and she’s getting more beautiful every single day. Then, I had a moment about how I’ve missed out on most of her years of growing, since the fam moved when she was just a wee babe. I’m so grateful for technology for allowing us to share in these moments. And I’m so thankful she’s my niece. Watching any of my nieces do anything…anything at all…fills me up. They are my heart.

6. I’m surviving the brutally cold weather the Mid-South has been getting each and every day. I’m ranting about it, but I’m getting out in it and trying to be grateful we don’t have mounds of snow like everywhere else in the nation. But dang y’all, it’s COLD and I’m over it.

Random bits:
* I woke up suddenly in the middle of the night a lot this week with turbo brain. One night I had the overwhelming urge to make a quiche at 2 a.m. What in the world?! That same night I contemplated what I’m gonna do with the rest of my life. These moments where you’re kinda awake, but still in some sleep stage is where clarity lies I think. Weird.

*More weirdness… I joke lately how I’m a witch (which I need to find a new term for), because of all the random coincidences that happen to me lately. I really feel like Louise Miller in Teen Witch, though my powers kicked in at 30 instead of 16. Anyway, more moments of ‘I thought of someone and then they called’ happened all week long. It’s no longer weirding me out, as it’s becoming my new norm. Yes, maybe I’m a weirdo.

*Awesomeness is getting an unexpected package for Koda from my aunt and uncle, and the sweetest V-day card from Fishface’s aunt. Sweet aunts and uncle! Love them so.

TGIF, y’all!

It’s the freaking weekend

Well, almost.
TGIF, y’all!

Bet you thought I abandoned you like all those times before. No no no. Remember this is the year of the DO and I won’t be DOing that anymore.

In the past two weeks, lots has been buzzing. Grown up things like buying my first hair dryer, going to the eye doctor for the first time since I was a kid and getting my first pair of glasses, purging disgusting couches, cooking for the week and signing up for the YMCA.
There will be a blog post soon dedicated to at least one of those things.
There’s been fun things like maintaining our Catan addiction with friends and a crafty girls night.

Since it’s the year of the DO. I’ve also been sticking to that by actually reading a book. Page 100 y’all! What the what! Sadly, I’m a writer who struggles to finish books. No judgement. I’m reading “Julie & Julia” and it’s good read. Dare I say what we all say, “So much better than the movie.” Honestly, I struggled with Amy Adams in that movie. Now, I can tolerate her better, but I’m not sure of her as Julie Powell.
Anywho, I’ve also been DOing a cleaner diet, mainly no sugar with an inadvertent side of no alcohol.
I even avoided free ice cream at Jason’s Deli last night. It wasn’t easy, even if I’m not a huge ice cream fan.
I even poured out the sweet half of my half & half tea this week. Should’ve just asked for unsweet altogether. Baby steps.
Speaking of which, tea keeps me awake y’all.
And speaking of sleep, anyone else sleeping like balls this week?

With the weekend coming, I’ve planned a Saturday date for Fishface and myself. We’re gonna tour the newly renovated/expanded Whole Foods and have lunch, coffee, smoothies there. I’m excited since the store doubled in square footage. Expect pics.
And Lord give me strength to avoid the sweet treats.
Sunday we’re watching the Big Game with sweet friends. Before then, I gotta find a yummy recipe for all the pigskin-loving peeps.  Feel free to throw any good ones in the comments.

Friday Ramblings

What a week it has been.

1. Found solace in this piece. Still trying to figure out why.
Maybe it’s this quote: “No that’s okay but I tend to ruin things I know I’ve been given and in these moments I tend to wonder if there is such a thing as grace.”

2. Change definitely became the theme of the week. Last week, this week. Good change. Big change. Deets later.

3. Solidified that Chinese food is not my friend. We are officially over.

4. Stress causes my body to revolt in big ways. Anxiety was the name of the game this week.

5. In relation to 2 and 4, I don’t do change well. For reals.

6. Realizing how vague this post is and feeling to need to share more, but fear I’ll give away way too much. Then, I think how silly it is to be so secretive and no one really reads this anyway. Ugh.

7. Last night, I determined that celebrating other people’s accomplishments makes any day better. My best friend has his artwork hanging inside my favorite bar for the next three months and I could not be more excited for him.

8. Sure things about this week: The Tigers always make my day better as does Cougar Town.

9. Speaking of which, Tigers game tomorrow. Woot. And then pizza with another BFF.

10. TGIF!

Friday Love

Ah, TGIF. You know how I love it.

1. I’m beyond excited for this weekend, because we get to see all of our wedding pictures! The excitement has been building all week, and I might explode by the time I get there. I wish I could relive our wedding day at least once a month. LOVED that day so much!

wedding farewell

2. Digging that it’s February already. January and I aren’t friends, since it’s the dead of winter and there’s just not much happening. And today kind of feels fresh, like a new start. Yay for the first of the month. And now you’re singing Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. You’re welcome.

3. And perhaps I’m a little excited about the end of football. Hehe! I’m a basketball, baseball gal. Even so, I do appreciate the Big Game for the thrill, commercials and halftime show. This year is extra exciting since we have a couple of Memphis-area fellas playing on the Ravens side of things. Woot.

4. I’ve promised to make Fishface this for Sunday. Seems easy enough. Trisha’s show is full of yummy recipes, though her personality could use a pinch of jazz, a zest of spice. There should be way more Garth on that show. Just sayin.

5. This weekend will also consist of reading more of The Happiness Project. And I plan to finally clean out my purse. Totally inspired by this article. That article also touches on a media fast, which I’ve been contemplating a lot lately. A friend of mine is doing Facebook Free February. The sheer fact of that concept terrifying me means I clearly should do it. Haha. I’m thinking of my own alliterative fast…maybe Facebook Free Fridays in February. Seriously though, I am going to attempt to scale WAY back on the social media addiction during nights and weekends.

6. The flu has found its way into our office this week. And I’ve been eating super power foods to help avoid it. Kroger’s salad bar is da bomb! For reals. Twice this week I loaded up with spinach, broccoli, roasted garic, bell pepps, strawbs, tomatoes, lentil salad and couscous salad. DELISH. I’ve also been eating an orange a day, hitting the Zicam and making sure I get lots of sleep. Oh, and I’ve had SO much water.
“I love water so much that I wish I could drink it while I sleep.” That exact sentence was the last thing I said before I hit the pillow. True hilariousness.

7. If you want some inspiration in your life, just watch Kid President. He’s adorable and spot on. Love, love, love this video too much!

8. And supppperrr loving my haircut I got Monday. Long, lifeless hair turned into a layered head of volume with the addition of a side bang. Oh yeah! Koda approves.
koda and me

9. Next week is going to be the busiest week for Fishface and myself. But we end it with a wedding dress search for one of my besties. Just gotta power through the week.

10. Thinking a viewing of Groundhog Day might be necessary for tomorrow. Truth: I’ve never seen it. Bill Murray, I’m coming for ya.

Happy Weekend!

Friday Ramblings

1. This Friday is a Super Duper TGIF!!! Why?! Because after weeks…WEEKS I say…the sun burst through my kitchen window this morning. I’m not exaggerating when I say I haven’t seen the sun rise in double-digit days. And it’s not because I sleep in. The weather ’round here has been downright gross – cold, rainy. Ugh. My mood has matched it. But TODAY…today the SUN is out and I plan to soak it all up!

2. Excited about this weekend as it involves a lunch with this sweet gal. I’m looking forward to uplifting convo and healthy eats. Pure coincidence that her latest post mentions this very thing in the exact same No. 2 spot with the near exact wording. Proof that lunch is going to rock!

3. Thank you notes for that big event we had on 10.20.12 will be completed this weekend. I cannot believe I haven’t done this yet. Shame.

4. Fishface and I are making homemade pizza tonight. Yum!

5. Have I mentioned how much I love grocery shopping during the week?! We stocked up pretty well Wednesday night. It’s so nice to know the weekend doesn’t have to consist of meal planning and buying. Quiche on tap this weekend, too. My fave!

6. Apparently, it’s the weekend of food, because one of my BFFs who promised us a homemade dinner as a wedding gift is delivering Sunday evening. Delish eats, good friends and Uno will be the name of the game.

7. Peppermint tea is delicious and good for digestion. Try some. Mexican food is not. Ha.

8. Discovered this lady this week thanks to WEVL. Knew the song “Weakness in Me” but Joan is one talented lady. Must get an album of hers soon. Discovering old music that I should probably know about already reassures me there’s still so much left to learn in the world. Anyone, anyone?

9. Also discovered Dean Evenson courtesy of my Sarah McLachlan Pandora station. I dig New Age and like this guy’s love for nature.

10. I’m beyond obsessed with Nashville – the show. It’s the best Hump Day remedy ever!

Have a great weekend guys and gals!
